GENERAL INFORMATION

Coronary Artery Disease: Prevention, Detection and Treatment is designed to provide practicing physicians and healthcare staff with an in-depth overview of the entire spectrum of coronary artery disease. Novel risk factors, state of the art imaging technologies and new management strategies for patients with acute coronary artery disease will be highlighted. The evolving role of revascularization, interventional cardiology, coronary surgery, and options for the management of advanced non-revascularizable coronary artery disease will be discussed. Population trends and future directions in new scientific breakthroughs such as cell therapy for patients with coronary artery disease will be reviewed.

The course would be of interest for cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, internists, and physician assistants and nurse practitioners who see patients with coronary artery disease.

Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the latest diagnostic and management strategies for acute coronary syndromes;
  • Incorporate the use of newer imaging modalities in the detection and treatment of complications of myocardial ischemia;
  • Determine the risks and benefits of screening early detection and prevention in coronary artery disease;
  • Recognize the latest diagnostic and management strategies for acute ischemic events and the latest information on newer platelets and thrombin inhibitors;
  • Incorporate the use of newer interventional devices, drugs and surgical treatment in clinical practice;
  • Assess optimal time of surgical intervention;
  • Describe the role of genetic factors in cardiovascular disease;
  • Differentiate the role of PET, Echo, and CMR imaging in detection of hibernating myocardium;
  • Assess advances in noninvasive coronary imaging with multislice CT angiography and cardiac magnetic resonance;
  • Distinguish lifestyle interventions that improve cardiovascular health and understand the effects of diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome.
Target Audiences

This course is intended for cardiovascular specialists, cardiac surgeons, cardiovascular fellows, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and internists with special interest in clinical cardiology and newer cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
